Winners of TGP

For the first post here, I guess I should tackle new people on GLEE. The Glee Project (TGP) has just concluded, with an ending many are calling a cop-out. Basically, (if you don’t already know the results and don’t want it spoiled, you can just stop reading now) the grand prize of a seven-episode story arc on GLEE was given to two finalists, while the other two got a (pretty darn good) consolation prize of two episodes on GLEE each.

I guess we are all concerned about whether adding 4 people onto GLEE will take away precious screen time from the expansion of the story arcs of characters we already know and love.

Still, instead of griping about how 2 won and 2 got bit roles, I’m going to try and speculate what these four can add to the GLEE family, and what roles they could play. For this post, I’ll just discuss Samuel Larsen and Damian McGinty - the two seven-episode story arc winners.

Samuel Larsen

With what Ryan Murphy said about the Glee Project winner being Sue Sylvester’s nemesis, I’m betting that Samuel’s the one to portray this role. (Don’t quote me, though! I’m new at this speculating business.) Sue already has something against Will’s curly hair - she’s probably going to hate Samuel’s dreads. Though she has mentioned that her hate of Will’s hair is largely due to her bleaching her own hair when she was young (thus spoiling her hair) and so stems from jealousy, who is to say that she won’t be jealous of Samuel’s long hair?

From what we’ve seen of Samuel on TGP, it’s safe to say that the boy can rap! Watch the Dance-Ability music video (U Can’t Touch This) and Tenacity music video (Under Pressure / Ice Ice Baby) for proof! Finally, ND gets another rapper! Kevin McHale’s the best rapper by far, and though we’ve seen people like Matthew Morrison and Noah Puckerman rap, ND’s rapping duties have generally fallen to Artie.

As for Samuel’s character’s niche…

I know he [Ryan Murphy] looks at me as a Christian character that you wouldn’t expect to be a Christian character, which I love. I know he wants me to be the indie rocker that ‘Glee’ doesn’t have.

Also, given how people have been commenting about his “intense looks” during TGP, I think it would be hilarious if he has to deliver comic lines with a poker face. Something like Sam with the balls line. Remember? Puck asking Sam how many balls he can fit in his mouth? ”I’ve never had any balls in my mouth. Have you?”

Damian McGinty

I think Damian has the clearest idea about what his character is going to be.

I think Ian said last night that I would come in as a freshman. If I did get the role, I think it would be quite obvious that I would really be the youngest on the show. I look quite young and I’m only 18, so there would be an element of me being the baby. What makes me unique? Obviously, I’m Irish, but also Ryan has said to me he has seen me coming on to the show and starting off very quiet, missing home, very vulnerable, and then in the end getting to know people well. He sees me ending up being the leader of the glee club. So, I think he sees a lot of potential there. It’s just interesting and very flattering and exciting for me to hear that.

I’ve also read that Dot Marie Jones would like Coach Beiste to take Damian’s character under her wing:

I had a great idea, I think I mentioned it to Ryan, but if not maybe we can make this happen. The boy from Ireland on the show, Damian, I think it would be great if Beiste takes in a foreign exchange student since she doesn’t have a family of her own.

So I’m pretty sure Damian’s character has already been pretty fleshed out. There’s also a possibility that Damian’s character is actually the one Sue hates - as he said it himself:

But you could just imagine Sue Sylvester hating this new Irish kid and not understanding a word he says. It sounds like it could be a very true storyline.

I hope Damian’s character won’t have a backstory that’s copied-and-pasted from his real life. Somehow, his Irish background will work its way into his story - you can’t help it; he has that Irish accent. Still, I’d like something more imaginative from RIB and the new writers. /don’t spoil the faith I still have in you!

Speculations on Lindsay and Alex coming up during the weekend. Honestly, I think those two have more potential material, if you want to base things on their real life.

I’ll also be posting compilations of (potential?) spoilers. I’m pretty sure most of the spoilers are already known. I’d also like to say that I’m not sure if the episode titles are real and true, though I hope they are. Episode 2 sounds epic. (And it’s the sex riot episode!) And no worries, spoilers under read-mores. ;)

SPOILER: episode 3 appearance (and more)

'Glee': Ryan Murphy Reveals Details on 'The Glee Project' Finalists' Characters

Samuel Larsen News.

gleeprojectcast:

Can you reveal anything about the other winner of The Glee ProjectSamuel Larsen? Is he coming on the show soon?

Monteith: Yeah, he’s here today. I can confirm he’s here, but we haven’t been formally introduced yet. His is a very interesting role and it ties into a lot of preexisting storylines. It feels very natural. It’s a smart way to bring him into the show. I hear he’s very talented.

Edited to add:

Murphy had previously told us his character would be a relative of Puck’s.

Monteith: I do not know if that’s true yet. He joins the show in the Valentine’s Day episode.

There you go, Sam’s first episode (ep 13) airs 2/14/2012.
